PREFACE
Hello – thank you for visiting my website. In it, you will not find travel itineraries, tour practicalities or general information. What you will find are mostly short stories accumulated from my journeys as I set out to seek the good in humankind, not long after our world spiraled towards the abyss of insanity following a single catastrophic and fanatical act, shortly after we crossed into the new millennium. I wasn’t disappointed in my search for that decency embodied in the human spirit. The search is about finding myself, too, and I’ve used the most profound method of self education, enlightenment and character building – travel – to shape my mind and spirit. Even though the perfect character is an aspiration and can never be attained, we should not retard our efforts as I believe that we will eventually rise above our own darkness.

I continually stitch my travel experiences into the folds of my memory – journeys, recollections of people and places and of the events that continue to carve and shape my life. The fact is that we do not stop growing, learning or changing. And I use my personal encounters with people and their land to nurture and fuel my growth.

SOLITUDE

Someone once asked me why I enjoy travelling alone. Allow me to quote:
“Travel is at its best a solitary enterprise: to see, to examine, to assess, you have to be alone and unencumbered” – Paul Theroux

A TEACHER OF LIFE
There is a common thread binding spirituality with travel, and this thread has been woven tightly into the fabric of humanity since the birth of human history. In our voyage to lands beyond our own, we may suddenly realize that our world is immeasurable and incomprehensible. We may also realize that the lessons that are available for our learning are not measured in terms of distance, but rather by how its wonders and possibilities inspire us. Too, I believe that the fundamental and paramount reason for our innate enthusiasm to travel and explore is to acquire knowledge and wisdom, not just from the land and its people, but also through the experiences – joys and complexities alike – acquired during the journey itself. Hence I feel that my need to travel is imperative to my personal and spiritual growth.

A VISIT
There are moments in our lives that we voluntarily or involuntarily visit and revisit repeatedly in our mind. This is my perspective and understanding of that tendency.

AN IMPRINT
There is a subtle tapping at my consciousness, a gentle nudge in the form of fleeting thoughts and indelible images. These are times when I return to a moment in time over and over again. Often they are triggered by a reverie, but sometimes it is a scene before me or a sound, or a taste or a smell that evokes a memory from a recent or distant past, from home or afar. I call these images Imprint. We harbour these images in our conscious or sub-conscious mind. They are richly textured and interlaced with emotions from our encounters with people, places and the natural world. Our Imprint may occur in a transient way or as an elaborate one. I frequently harvest my Imprint through my travels and each and every occurrence is a profound teacher of life, urging deep reflection and often fluidly leads to an act of spiritual and personal transformation. And, as I often find the world we live in turbulent and volatile, I habitually draw on my Imprint for its healing nature, which provides equilibrium between the sane and insane, civility and unrest, tranquillity and mayhem, flooding me with humility, reverence and gratitude. Perhaps we should consciously draw upon our Imprint in the hope of dwelling deeper into the realm of our soul, not so much for want of a reason or a definitive answer to life’s questions but rather for taking a philosophical approach as we appreciate and accept our existence. I would like to think that, at the end, all our travel experiences, which invariably include meeting with the warmth and generosity of the people of the land we visit, and which are all encounters with our natural world, will inexorably lead us to a profound understanding of ourselves.
I hope my stories and images will inspire you to reflect on your own Imprint They are the rich tapestry of your existence.
